Government Regarded Unable to Assure Freedom of Worship
Written by Lowongan Kerja on 07.55TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government is regarded as being unable to assure freedom of worship as mandated by the constitution.
Jemaat Ahmadiyah still does not have the freedom of worship in line with its faith.
“As a result, there is discrimination in terms of freedom of worship,” as quoted from a press statement from the Wahid Institute together with Kontras and IHWAR.
The government tends to close its eyes to discrimination practices and did not even take any legal action in the case of assault against Ahmadiyah followers.
This indicates that the government allowed violations against the rights and freedom of worship.
Yesterday, Ahmadiyah followers in Kuningan, West Java were attacked by around a thousand people, causing three people to be wounded, two mosques ruined and eight houses of Ahmadiyah followers damaged.
The attack was triggered by the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) decree stating that Ahmadiyah was a misleading faith.
The Wahid Institute together with other institutions is urging the police to take action against the attack perpetrators.
The government is also being asked to prohibit non-governmental organizations that use violence to reach their goals.
The Human Rights National Commission is also being asked to investigate the severe human rights violations against Ahmadiyah followers.
